Welcome!

Distance Learning Launched
on April 14, 2020.

Watch this video for a break down on what an average week will look like, and see below for time commitments, grades, and ways to get help! :)

Expectations:

Four assignments will be posted every Monday morning in Google Classroom. They will focus on the following four areas:

  • Language Conventions (Vocabulary/Grammar)

  • Speaking & Listening (Videos & Qs and/or Discussion Board)

  • Reading (articles, short stories, poems, text-based questions, annotations, etc.)

  • Writing (CER paragraphs, Quick Writes, free response, etc.)

What to expect every Monday morning:

Every week, you will need to log in to Google Classroom and click on CLASSWORK.
You will see a labeled topic for the week.

(Ex: đź’»April 14-17 Remote Learning - Bored)

Every Monday morning, a Weekly Overview and all four weekly assignments will be posted under that week’s topic, as shown in the picture on the right.

Always read the OVERVIEW first. This is essentially a Guide/Checklist of what to expect that week.

It will contain the following:

  • Updated contact hours and announcements for the week

  • Link to Weekly Attendance/Check in

  • Weekly Unit Overview (purpose, learning targets, standards, etc).

  • Assignment List with directions and links (you can also access these directly from Google Classroom).

  • List of Extended Learning activities (not graded)

How do you get help?

  • I will hold a Zoom call with the entire period (for whoever would like to attend) every Tuesday to go over the assignments and to check in. This is not required, but it’d be nice to see you! I will record the Zoom meeting and post it online afterward.

  • I will be available for office hours throughout the week if you’d like to chat one-on-one.

  • I will also be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. via email and Remind.

  • Remember - your parents and siblings are amazing people, but it's not their job to teach you! It's mine! Ask me for help when you need it and I'm here for you!

Time Commitment

  • The assignment lengths may very, but the total amount of time you will need to complete all four assignments will average about 2 hours per week.

  • If it's taking you longer than 2 hours, please reach out so we can do it together!

Grades

  • Progress Grade Reports posted on April 13 are a current reflection of EVERYTHING that was due by March 13.

  • Grades cannot go lower than the grade posted April 13; HOWEVER, grades can improve based on student work completion.

  • Your Things Fall Apart Essay may still be revised/submitted for a higher grade.

  • Each new assignment (4 per week) will be worth 10 points each toward the category in which it belongs (Language Conventions, S&L, Reading, Writing), providing students with the opportunity to raise their current grade.

  • You will only receive credit if the assignment is correct and finished. If not, you will be asked to revise before receiving any points. These are not “participation points.”

  • **** Students who were failing on March 13th and do nothing to improve their grade between now and the end of the school year will still receive a failing grade.
