Changes in the District Policy Regarding Credits for Off Campus Classes

Beginning second semester, January 8th, 2007, all students must submit an “Alternative Enrollment for Course Credit Approval” form to their counselors for approval prior to enrolling in any off campus course for high school credit (Palomar, BYU, UCCP, Futures, etc.). These forms can be obtained from the counseling office.

This process will ensure that any requested off campus class will either clearly be accepted for credits toward meeting a particular EUHSD graduation requirement or whether it will only be accepted for elective credits. It will also ensure that counselors are informed and involved in such a request as part of the student’s four-year plan for graduation.

District content area teachers have reviewed a wide range of course outlines, primarily from Palomar and BYU, for their equivalency to the content standards of our district courses. Based on their recommendations, courses are either approved as equivalent to a particular district course or will only be accepted for elective credits.

Counselors will maintain a list of all courses approved for district equivalency. Some major changes from past practice involve BYU courses – PE and World Language courses do not meet district equivalencies and will only be accepted for elective credits.

Students who have initiated off campus classes prior to this notice may have their class “grandfathered”, but must submit the course approval form to their counselor for review no later than the 01/08/07 deadline.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school counselor.
