Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1971, Pete Coscarart had a brilliant prep career in football, basketball and baseball. After graduating from Escondido High in 1931, Pete played baseball at Washington State College before becoming one of three Coscarart brothers to reach the Major Leagues. A second baseman with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he played for the Dodgers in the 1941 World Series. He was considered one of the best-fielding second baseman in Major League history. Pete also played for the San Diego Padres in the old Pacific Coast League and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Following his playing days, he returned to Escondido and founded Village Realty Company. After his retirement, the baseball diamond at Escondido High was named Pete Coscarart Field in his honor.
